The Learning Support Educator provide face-to-face learning support sessions to students with hearing loss who are attending mainstream schools from primary to secondary level in the areas of English, Mathematics and cognitive skills.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Learning Support related duties
• Provide face-to-face learning support sessions to students.
• Assess and identify educational/developmental needs of student with hearing loss,
• Review with the team the current assessment tools or purchase research-based academic resources / assessment tools.
• Educate students on self-advocacy skills.
• Develop, implement and review appropriate intervention plans in line with the student’s individual education plan and monitor progress.
• Liaise and work with teachers, parents and other stakeholders involved through schools visits, meetings, reviews etc.
• Plan and conduct workshops/activities during school holidays
2. Operational duties
• Work with Learning Support Educators in strategising and meeting KPIs.
• Conduct review of Learning Support SOP and analyse processes for improvements.
• Plan and conduct outreach to stakeholders, including schools to increase awareness of ISS programme.
• Conduct review on assessment tools and make necessary recommendations.
• Work with ISS team on audit processes.
• Maintain proper records and documentation for programme reporting and audit purposes.
• Attend and write minutes of meetings.
• Perform any other operational functions required by the supervisors.
• Ensure services and programmes are delivered in a professional and ethnical manner and recommend changes to meet current needs.
• Work collaboratively with a multi professional team.
3. Professional Skills Development
• Work with learning support team to ensure professional competency by keeping current with latest skills and training courses, subject to approval by the immediate supervisor.
• Attend Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) classes beyond Level 1.
4. Requirements
• Minimum Diploma from Polytechnics/Universities with GCE ‘O’ level credits in English and Mathematics
• Candidates with the following will be an added advantage:
• Recognised teaching qualifications or equivalent in Diploma in Special Education
• Special Education Teachers/Special Education Needs Officers with at least 2 years of experience
• Prior experience with children/youth with hearing loss or learning difficulties
• Competence in managing student behaviour and delivering classroom lessons to students age 7 and above
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, patience, good communications skills
• Strong command of English (written and spoken)
• Selected candidates must:
- Apply for the Instructor Registration Scheme (IRS) with MOE
- Attend SgSL classes and use SgSL when communicating with clients
• Comprehensive Training will be provided
