Job Summary:
This is a professional position reporting to the Director. This person is responsible for assisting the Director in overseeing all of the day-to-day operations of the auditorium. Event responsibilities for McAlister Auditorium include patron services, technical services, and housekeeping services. This employee is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the installation, maintenance and operation of all sound, stage lighting, rigging and theatrical equipment in the facility. Work includes selection, assignment, and evaluation of personnel, ordering supplies, and controlling equipment and supplies inventories.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
1. Schedule, train and oversee appropriate technical staff to meet facility standards and protocols and event production requirements.
2. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and provide excellent customer service with faculty, student, staff, artists, visiting production personnel and members of the general public.
3. Consults with groups prior to arrival to ascertain specific technical needs and specifications. Must be comfortable with varied experience levels, from large national tours to local event organizers.
4. Prepares payroll for both student and professional stagehands for events and maintains records as necessary.
5. Hires and trains student workers in safety, the basic operation, and set-up of various theatrical and equipment and production procedures.
6. Oversee and coordinate event change overs, load in/out and maintenance crew calls.
7. Enforces and has knowledge of all relevant safety protocols for theatrical production, OSHA, PLASA standards and applicable Fire and Life Safety Codes.
8. Maintains, inspects, repairs, and keeps records on all theatrical equipment and systems. Informs supervisor of any issues discovered.
9. Able to work in an organized manner and easily adjust to last minute changes in a fast paced, high stress environment.
10. Competent in Microsoft Office, E-mail and standard internet technology. Working knowledge of CAD, Vectorworks, and/or other event software utilities.
11. May be required to assist with basic sound, video or lighting design.
Relationships:
Continuous contact with members of own work unit, immediate supervisor, members of other departments, and student workers for planning, coordinating, problem solving, presenting information and suggestions related to mutual goals. Parties generally have cooperative attitudes.
Responsibility for Final Decisions:
Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures. Errors may be detected within the department or section in which they occur, but may affect the work of others within the unit to trace errors and make corrections.

Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.
Education/Skill Requirements:
Considerable experience in all phases of stage and theatrical work including rigging, sound, lighting, video, stage techniques and maintenance activities preferred.
Work requires:
Hands-on, physical position, including lifting, carrying, pulling, etc.
Frequent exposure to working at great heights and high voltage.
Able to lift 50 lbs
Significant evening and weekend work required.
